Al entered the Marines in August 1964. After basic training he was deployed to Vietnam. He served with the 3rd Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines.
He participated in many military combat operations including “Harvest Moon” in December 1965. In July of 1966 he was promoted to Corporal.
After being in Vietnam, he became very sick and was subsequently hospitalized at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital for several months. Through all his combat and recovery Al remained a proud Marine, as we were also so proud of him.
While in Vietnam he had the honor to be chosen to serve a luncheon for General Westmoreland, and Lt. General Walt. Al used his artistic talent to hand print their table place cards. He also received recognition from his Commanding Officer, R.T.Hanifin Jr. for his very favorable impression he made on the Generals.
Al passes away June 2009 from complications of his service-related disabilities. Left to carry on his love and legacy are his Wife of 42 years, Maudine, Son Alan, daughter Natalie and 4 grandchildren.
