Jay enlisted in the Army in Nov 1995 as a fuel & water specialist. After a year of enlisted service he retrained to combat medic reaching the rank of sergeant. During this time, he also utilized education opportunities to earn a Bachelors degree in nursing. While working as an Army nurse he was accepted into a graduate program for anesthesia. In 2003 he became a Nurse Anesthetist and was sworn in as a US Army officer.
Over the next 15 years Jay served four Operation Enduring Freedom & Operation Iraqi Freedom deployments as well as multiple medical operations throughout Central America. Jay achieved the rank of Major before retiring in December 2018 with 23 years of honorable service to the US Army.
