Melissa A. Steele commenced her distinguished service to the nation by enlisting on active duty in the US Army in 1989 and culminated as a Master Sergeant in the US Army Reserve in 2013. Over the 20 years of military service, she held a wide range of roles and responsibilities. During her initial enlistment, she served as a Multichannel Communication Equipment Operator with the Air Defense Artillery (Hawk Missiles). In the U.S. Army Reserve, she began as a Petroleum Supply Specialist, serving in the 475th QM Co (Meadville, PA) and the 542nd QM Co (Erie, PA). She subsequently held multiple NCO leadership positions within the 99th Readiness Division (Coraopolis, PA), concluding her career as the Petroleum Audit Detachment (1SG/NCOIC).
Among her significant accomplishments was her induction into the prestigious Audie Murphy Club for NCOs in recognition of her exemplary leadership. Melissa deployed and led Soldier in combat in both Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Clusters, and the Army Achievement Medal with a Silver and 3 Bronze Oak Clusters.
