Robert E. Zech

My dad entered the Army on January 22, 1942 and served until sometime in 1946. During World War 2, he spent time in the Philippines (Pacific theater) doing a variety of jobs including radio operator. I remember him telling me that we was on a ship for 50-some days. Had the atomic bombs not been dropped, he most likely would have been involved in a ground invasion into Japan. Although he did not raise the flag on Iwo Jima, I'm sure he served his country honorably.
